Spirit of Portopiccolo - Ca 'Sagredo
Overall winner of the Venice Hospitality Challenge 2018

Pendragon VI - Hilton Molino Stucky stands out in class 2

Venice, October 20, 2018. It ended today, the fifth edition of the Venice Hospitality Challenge, rightly considered the Grand Prix sailing of the City of Venice, with the Overall victory in Class 1 of Spirit of Portopiccolo - Ca 'Sagredo.

The boat helmed by Furio Benussi took the fleet command from the start, along a course ever so rich in charm, even dominating the final stretch along the Giudecca canal, until the finish.

Second at the finish line Way of Life - The Gritti Hotel helmed by Gaspar Vincec and third overall at the finish line, first class 2, Pendragon VI - Hilton Molino Stucky helmed by Lorenzo Bodini.

This year the Venice Hospitality Challenge saw twelve famous Maxi Yachts competing with the luxury Venetian hotels: The Gritti Palace, a Luxury Collection Hôtel, Venice; Ca’ Sagredo Hôtel; Hôtel Danieli, a Luxury Collection Hôtel, Venice; SINA Centurion Palace; Hilton Molino Stucky Venice; Belmond Hôtel Cipriani; Hôtel Excelsior Venice Lido Resort; Palazzina; The St. Regis Venice, JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa e Hôtel Almar Jesolo Resort e Spa.

A car in San Marco basin, a world premiere.
The 2018 course has been particularly rich in suggestions. After the departure in front of Punta della Salute, marked by the water jets of a towboat lasting four minutes, the sixty seconds before the start were highlighted by the raise oars of the “Royal Canottieri Bucintoro Company”. The boats, moored at Marina Santelena, left for Lido and then turned the buoy of Sant'Elena to return to the San Marco basin, where a very unusual boa was waiting for them: for the first time in the history of yachting world-wide, the boa consisted in a car, an Audi Q8 Mild Hybrid, moored on a floating pontoon that the boats turned before reaching the finish line.

The race was also attended by New Zealand Endeavor, winner of the Whitbread Round the World Race 1993-94 with Grant Dalton, helmed for the occasion by the 14 year-old Optimist World Champion 2017-2018 Marco Gradoni who also measured himself with Mauro Pelaschier , born when plastic still did not exist.

At the prizegiving ceremony, held at VYP Venice Yacht Pier, high-profile international sailors took part, such as World Sailing President Kim Andersen.
During the ceremony, Mirko Sguario handed the hat of the "Ambassador" doge, made by the historic Murano glassworks B.F. Signoretti, to Riccardo Bonadeo, Mauro Pelaschier and Marco Gradoni, with the hope that they can become ambassadors of the Venice Hospitality Challenge, the only regatta in the world that takes place on a city circuit.

Venice Hospitality Challenge with One Ocean Foundation to save the sea
The Venice Hospitality Challenge has seen this year the Yacht Club Venezia, promoter of the regatta, alongside One Ocean Foundation, the international project wanted by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) for the protection of the seas, a project that aims to open an international dialogue on the sustainability of the oceans and the creation of a network aimed at increasing awareness of the problems inherent in the marine ecosystem.

Maxi Yacht Viriella, the standard bearer of the Foundation's values, was helmed by the One Ocean Foundation Ambassador Mauro Pelaschier who invited everyone to make a small gesture
concrete for the sea: sign online the adhesion to the code of ethics of the Charta Smeralda available on www.1ocean.org.
